Magnetically-responsive microorganisms are progressively revealing their diversity with the use of new methods and technics in microscopy, single-cell sorting and sequencing. During this course, we will aim at characterizing natural populations of magnetically-responsive microorganisms at the ultrastructural and genetic levels. Environmental sampling, microscopes, single-cell sorting, molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches will be used.
At the end of the workshop, the student will know optic and electron microscopes functioning and utilization. Taxonomic identification and phylogenetic positioning of environmental microorganisms.
