The PACA-BioInfo platform is closely linked to the Genomic and Structural Information Laboratory (UMR 7256 CNRS/AMU). It has no permanent staff specifically assigned to service activities. The principle of its operation is to make available to the public (in free access via Internet) software tools set up and/or developed by engineers, researchers and teacher-researchers in the framework of IGS research projects.

The expertise of the laboratory and the platform’s computing resources can also be mobilised for external projects either in the form of services or in the form of scientific collaborations associated with dedicated funding (e.g. ANR, IDEX, staff made available, etc.). PACA-BioInfo and the IGS also welcome trainees of all levels and statuses (students, engineers/technicians, researchers) wishing to train in Bioinformatics, possibly by analysing their own data. PACA-BioInfo has all the expertise and software tools necessary for genomic (assembly, annotation, comparison), transcriptomic (mapping, quantification) and metagenomic (assembly, annotation, comparison) studies.

It has its own computing resources for large-scale data analysis.) It offers free Internet access to two flagship software packages (cited more than 2000 times, ~80,000 users/year) Phylogeny.fr and ACDtools.

After having been labelled by IBISA since its creation, PACA-Bioinfo is today one of the regional platforms recognised (and episodically financed) by France-Génomique and the “Institut Français de Bioinformatique”, two national infrastructures resulting from the ” investment in the future ” programme.

Opening

The service is open to the constituent units of the IMM and other laboratories in the region, as well as to biotechnology companies.

Facilities

PACA-Bioinfo manages a total of 900 cores and 200 TB of storage distributed over the platform. The platform has 2 SMP servers (1 TB of RAM) and several high-density core servers for shared computing.
The IMM’s Galaxy service is hosted on a dedicated server.72 Servers in 2 sites (Luminy and Joseph Aiguier).
