The aim of the BIOMASS platform is to custom-produce different micro-organisms (bacteria, archaea, yeasts, etc.) for molecular and metabolism studies. With a wide range of equipment and skills, the platform is particularly involved in the Biomass/Biohydrogen field through its projects for the production of biofuels and biohydrogen by consortia of naturally producing bacteria and by metabolic engineering, as well as in the field of bioremediation processes (toxic heavy metals, arsenic, ….). Our technical and scientific capabilities enable us to offer organisms as varied as strict anaerobes, methanogens, extremophiles as well as E. coli and recombinant yeasts. Associated with CEA Cadarache’s project to set up a platform for the production of photo-autotrophic organisms, this platform provides projects in different fields with the potential of biodiversity, recognised technical capacities and a scientific environment that is unique in France. Development and production in fermenters of cultures of bacteria is of great scientific or biotechnological interest in large quantities under controlled conditions (T°, pH, pO2, gas mixtures, etc.): anaerobic bacteria (sulphate-reducing and methanogenic), extremophilic bacteria (hyperthermophilic and acidophilic), Escherichia coli with isotopic labelling of proteins of interest, yeasts.
